l am 19 and never had any symptoms throughout my childhood but stories of teenagers dying suddly scare me.

l have also had a blood test showing no problems with my heart.

The reason l am askng is because l have a phobia of sudden death and get panic attacks whenever adrealine builds. l am on escitalopram 5mg.
l have had two ECGs whilst in the hospital and all turned out fine

Most heart defects are diagnosed via echocardiography which is an ultrasound of the heart. EKG can also pick up abnormalities however echo is a more definitive tests. You would only have these tests performed if you were experiencing symptoms.

l fought panic attacks for years & guess what. Nothing ever happened. My 18 year old son started having them so l am quite certain its hereditary. My Aunt,and cousin also. There r many web sites out there for u to go to that will help. l found little tricks through the years that help me. when l get anxious. Sipping ice water seems to help. l know this may not be any consolation to u but l have literally had hundreds before l went & was diagnosed with a panic disorder. l take diazapam. l use to take it three times a day (5mg) but have weened myself down to one. There r many people suffering from anxiety disorders & help is out there. Exercise helps so much. When u exercise ur body emits endorphins a natural tranquilizer. So start exercising a little each day & build on them from week to week. Its good for the body & the mind. It will also help ur confidence Trust me. Nothing is going to happen to you. l worried all those years for nothing. l wish u nothing but the best. Go enjoy ur life & do not let this condition beat you. You can do it. You r talking to a former professional worrier. Just think of all the energy l wasted on that. While l am thinking of it. Do not go looking for things that could be wrong with you. We can all find symptoms of something if we look hard enough. Its a merry go round & l got off that ride. God Bless

My son was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy last year. They think my youngest son has it but not too sure. One way to get this is to have it passed on by a family member. One parent was diagnosed with it & had heart surgery & because of it being a serious condition it was recommended that direct family members get it checked. Low & behold my son has the same condition & has to take Atenolol(beta blocker). l would talk to ur doctor & tell of ur concerns. Have them recommend a heart doctor. Anyone in sports or takes stimulants(i.e for ADHD) should definitly get their heart checked out. l would never of known of my sons heart condition if the doc did not say lets get his heart check do to family history. My son had no symptoms. Nothing led me to believe that my son had a serious heart condition. Routine check ups & a good relationship with ur doctor & im sure u will be fine. As l said, my advice is to talk to ur doctor & explain ur fears.
