Its a bit high but my mum walks around with bp of 235. The doctors tear their hair out trying to get it down for her but nothing helps.

It is above normal, in the range of what would be called pre-hypertension.

But, its not that much above normal. It needs to be corrected, but its not something you need to stress over. They may put you on a medication for a bit, like Lisinopril to help get it under control.

that is not horribly high but take ur blood pressure at a pharmacy & see what u get. some people have whats called white coat syndrome where ur blood pressure raises at a doctors office.to be diagnosed with high blood pressure u need more than one reading which is why they want u to come back u could also have just been extra stressed that day.

ps lisinopril is one of a million drugs they can use & it depends on what is causing ur high blood pressure whether they would use it..
for blacks they like to use either diuretics or calcium channel blockers & there r many in that range as well..they find that works best

and for mild high blood pressure they would more than likely start with what they will call a water pill for general public it is a diuretic most likley HCTZ which is a commonly used water pill or they will tell u to make lifestyle changes or both.

lots of times they will automatically start with combo drug thereapy such as hctz & lisinopril & that works best.

It is a little high yes. This could be a simple case of 'white coat syndrome' if this was just a one off reading, ideally, BP should be measured over a period of 24 hours for a more accurate result. In the meantime, three things that u could do to help, which r healthy to do even if ur not hypertensive;

Reduce salt intake in ur diet
Try & be as close to ur ideal weight as possible
Daily exercise.

Your GP will unlikely prescribe u any medication based on just one BP reading & he will likely suggest u make life style changes first. If ur BP continues to stay high, drug therapy may be considered later down the road. A healthy BP reading is 120/80 & below.Systolic of 140mmHg+ is considered hypertensive.

It is high, but not dangerously high.

As you are going back to your doctor, it will be checked again.

You may need medication for it.

You will be fine! Do not worry-you are being looked after!

The Normal blood pressure for a person is 120/80. l have high blood pressure & to help correct that, my GP had prescribed me some medicine which l have been taking from last 5 years.

147/99 is higher for both systolic & diastolic.and that is the reason why ur doctor wants to check it again next week.

But thinking about it & getting stressed will only increase it, so, keep calm as ur doctor can bring it in the normal range by
prescribing some medicine. Meanwhile just try to think the reason for ur stress or worry & try to avoid that as getting worried about something will not help u solve the problem.

Blood pressure” is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood. If this pressure rises & stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways.

Blood pressure numbers include systolic & diastolic pressures. Systolic blood pressure is the pressure when the heart beats while pumping blood. Diastolic blood pressure is the pressure when the heart is at rest between beats.

The table below shows normal numbers for adults. It also shows which numbers put u at greater risk for health problems. Blood pressure tends to goes up & down, even in people who have normal blood pressure. If ur numbers stay above normal most of the time, you’re at risk.

Categories for Blood Pressure Levels in Adults (in mmHg, or millimeters of mercury)
Category Systolic
(top number) Diastolic
(bottom number)
Normal Less than 120 And Less than 80
Prehypertension 120–139 Or 80–89
High blood pressure
Stage 1 140–159 Or 90–99
Stage 2 160 or higher Or 100 or higher

The ranges in the table apply to most adults (aged 18 & older) who don’t have short-term serious illnesses.

All levels above 120/80 mmHg raise ur risk, & the risk grows as blood pressure levels rise. “Prehypertension” means you’re likely to end up with HBP, unless u take steps to prevent it.

If you’re being treated for HBP & have repeat readings in the normal range, ur blood pressure is under control. However, u still have the condition. You should see ur doctor & stay on treatment to keep u blood pressure under control

Take care!

hi,do not be afraid,in order to ensure that you have high BP or HTN,you should measure it at least twice during a week,so the next blood measure will determine it,TC
