my husband is an alcoholic and is due for a dextox when a bed becomes available. last time he had a cholestrerol check it was 7.00 and tthe gp was worried my husband said that he would change his diet which he has done for the last 2 weeks he still is drinking alcohol pending a dextox. he had his bloods done on monday including another cholestrol one which came back at 18.00 the gp thought it must be an error so he had it done again a week later and we have just been told it has gone even higher 20.6 and the trig..... the other bit is 52.1. the gp does not know why and said she would contact the hospital tomorrow. please is there anyone out there who can throw any light on this l love my husband and l am so worried. why has it shot up now? when it was taken last year he was drinking then and not such a good diet and it was only 7.00? he is 52 please help?

Alcohol is a bad thing. l do not understand why the government allows people to drink alcohol but not use marijuana in any way. If u just listen to the 'experts', u would think that cholesterol is an evil substance & that most of us would benefit from lowering our cholesterol as low as possible. But it is not so. Cholesterol is a vitally important substance which is used for building our cell membranes & producing several of our hormones. This could be from foods he eats such as intake from fatty foods, excess calories as well if he is over weight this plays a huge part for cholesterol. Bad is LDLs & Good r HDLs. Cholesterol travels threw the blood streams via molecules called Lipoprteins. Low density lipoproteins (LDL0 the bad )cholesterol carry fats from the LIVER to the bodies cells high density lipoproteins (HDL) remove the fats from circulation by carrying them back to the LIVER & eliminated. High LDL (bad boys) means more fat in the blood stream this is a risk for heart disease or a stroke. HDL (good boys) this helps lower the amount of fats in the blood stream.This affects men & women around the ages of 40-? Most adults should have a test done by age 20 to see if this is a factor for them & deal with asap most do not know till a blood test is done> There r no proven facts to alcohol & cholesterol but alcohol does damage the liver & if liver is damaged this could be why the levels r so high & climbing since the liver is not functing proper.

In addition to everone elses , alsohol WILL raise your cholesterol levels.
