My mother had a blood pressure test done and it was 170/76...She is 63 and overweight by 2 stone.Is this reading good or bad?

Her blood pressure is high (she has hypersystole). She should see a doctor about lowering her blood pressure, as it, combined with her weight, could lead to heart disease.

The reading is abnormal. However, a single reading is not enough to diagnose Hypertension. If subsewquent redings (at lest three readings) show elevated levels like this, she can be diagnosed as hypertensive and would require medication.

To answer ur question- this reading is bad.

However, this could of been a result of anxiety because she was at the doctor is office, if that is where she was.

If u do not already have a BP monitor, l recommend one be purchased & monitor it 3 times a day for 1 week while she is resting & has not been moving a lot, write it down & present the results to her doctor.

If these r all elevated, she does then have hypertension (high blood pressure). This would need to be treated with medicine. These medicines r usually relatively cheap. l recommend Wal-Mart Pharmacy if ur mother does not have any other income besides federal income sources. Their program covers a lot of the generic versions of BP medicines, usually at $4.00
