my coucin was admitted into the hospital because his heart rate keeps rising to about 130. and and we do not know why they have him on moniters but for no reason it will go from 80 to 130 and he kind of blacks out on us, he is only 34 yrs. old and good shape (well we thought) can anyone tell me what mightbe the problem. or has anyone ever had this problem? and what test should this hospital be running?(i really do not like the hospital )

Sounds more like an SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) or PAF (paroxysmal atrial fibrillation) both can usually be treated with medication or a slightly more invasive procedure (such as ablation) The fast heart rate can cause the black outs.

Tachycardia is a very non-specific symptom, so there are lots of reasons he could have a fast heart rate. It could be associated with an endocrine disorder such as hyperthyroidism, or endocrine secreting tumor. It could be due to medications. It could be a heart disorder such as WPW or PVCs. A work up starts with a history and physical. Any labs, EKGs, Holter Monitors, lab work would be based on history and physical findings.
