What are the steps in an angioplasty surgery?

local anesthetic or concious sedation..you will either be asleep or very sedated..they will then feed a catheter up through a femoral vein (i'm assuming their doing it in ur coronary arteries).that is a vein in ur groin..they will have the balloon deflated, float the catheter into the blocked area, expand the balloon to flatten the plaque against the vessel walls, they also may place stents in the area to ensure that the area does not close again. l do not know it depends on the surgeon..you will have to be flat on ur back for a while, & it is actually quite possible that u will wake up in the ICU..good luck!!

Angioplasty has advanced a long way.
The right groin is shaved, then prepped with an antiseptic, usually betadine.
The doctor, who previously has checked for pulses, injects lidocaine in the area were he will insert the needle.
A large sized needle is then inserted into a large vein leading to ur heart.
A catheter is inserted & threaded to the heart.
Dyes r then injected & watched through a fluoroscope & display on a screen.
The doctor then inserts another cath with the ''balloon'' to the block coronary arteries.
The ''balloon'' is then inflated opening the artery.
A stent is then inserted to keep the artery open.
The caths r removed & the vein & wound closed using a variety of different techniques.

Chuck has it except u stay overnight in the hospital for observation, to guard against atrial fibrillation. They will take blood twice more, & u will be on an IV drip so the fluids can wash out the dye from ur system. The dye is very dehydrating. Closure is checked several times after the procedure. Closure can be by collagen plug, pressure by clamping, or pressure & pressure bandage. Plavix & aspirin for a year.

No driving, lifting, climbing or bending for a couple of days.

When u return to work, u can brag that u have a Mohawk haircut.
