l am 30 years old and have had a few episodes since the birth of my child last year of SVT and my doc says that it is not life treatening but if l want more children l need to have an ablation done. l have scheduled it next month, but l am scared to death of the procedure and am thinking about waiting til the fall to do it. Has anyone else had this done and is the procedure scary. l am scared if l sneeze or something during the procedure they will damage my heart. With only a few episodes ever of this should l go ahead and do it, During the episodes my heart rate was between 160-250 and they lasted 2-5 minutes at most.

My daughter had an ablation done when she was 17, that was 11 years ago. Her heart rate would get over 200 & would freak me out when l tried to take her pulse, l was sure l was doing it wrong. She was first diagnosed at the age of 5, & used to get scared doing PE in school, she was afraid she would die of a heart attack & everyone would stand around & laugh. She had problems again when her weight went up, so she decided to loose weight, & she is fine again. The procedure is safe, they do them all the time, get it over with.

I've had it since l was in my early 20's. l would get attacks from various things. Started with smoking weed ( l quit). Than when l had hyper thyroid! Had attacks when l used energy drinks or coffee (quit them). Also when l have stayed up too long (over fatigued). The body works harder when u have been up for prolonged periods of time. basically things that can speed up ur body metabolism, increase the heart rate, blood pressure, etc. l have been taking tenormin 50 mg for 20 years. Sometimes l do not take it, but whenever l have attacks, l take one. The most severe attacks l had my heart rate would shoot up to over 200 beats per minute. l was on a monitor. l had my heart checked out but did not get the test done u r about to get. l canceled it for the same reason, fear. If the heart itself is okay, the tachycardia is not necessarily serious. Keeping ur lifestyle within control may be the answer. l do not over do it or do things that may bring on attacks. Example, stimulant drugs of any kind, other kinds of drugs, over fatigue, over exertion, & watch ur blood pressure. High blood pressure can also bring on attacks.

You should be listening to the advice of the specialist that is going to do the procedure or if this is not feasible then u should be getting ur info from at least a cardiologist & not from ur OB-GYN or Primary Doctor. l have had ablation done & l have to admit that the thought of it is scary but the actual part of having it done, u will be sedated & wo not remember much more than going into the operating suite. Having confidence in the doctor & the facility goes a long way toward making u comfortable. l do not imagine it is any scarier than most things that u have done in a hospital, including the birth of ur child. That must have been pretty scary too, was not it? As far as putting it off till Fall, l would like to share my experience with you. l needed a heart bypass but it was not an emergency so l decided to wait a couple months till after Christmas. Postponing it was a big mistake. It only gives u longer to worry about it & think about if things go wrong. Since then, when medical things come up, l tell them to schedule me ASAP, no more fooling around. Good luck to you, remember that there is a good history of success in these things & above all, listen to ur doctor & not worry about other things people tell you.

l am 46 years old & otherwise healthy, l have been experiencing attacks of rapid heartbeat for some time but in Feb during a training course l experienced a real hum dinger. which landed me in hospital for 36 hours, at its worst my pulse was at 330. with chest, neck & jaw pain. l was petrified. since then l have been fitted with a cardio call.. up until 4 days ago nothing then l have had two episodes within days. The consultant requested that l see him today. He said that the readings were a brill diagnosis of S.V.T. he is now booking me in to have an ablation done asap. l am scared but relieved.

l can completely relate to u !! l also have had several SVT episodes & have even been given adenicard on two occasions to stop it. (242 bpm) One of those times l was 7 months pregnant !! (baby is fine he is almost three now !!)
l have been to two (2) specialists both mentioned that procedure but said ONLY if they were severe and/or often enough. Both of which put me on a monitor FIRST to track my heart rate.
For the simple reason that BOTH of these specialist recommended other options BEFORE doing that procedure. l suggest u get a second opinion !! Has ur doctor explained ways to stop the SVT like bearing down ? Has he put u on a monitor and/or done a cardiogram ?
Also, ways to prevent them, low or no caffeine. Stress, & excessive exercise can be triggers as well. So, in my opinion, ONLY if lifestyle changes, MAGNESIUM supplements, awareness of ur triggers & more than 3 or 4 a month - go for it - other than that no way !!
The procedure is less invasive than it used to be but non-the less it is still heart surgery !!!!!!
Also, do ur research - here is one site to read !!
hrspatients.org/patients/treatments/cardiac_ablation.asp
Good luck & take care of yourself !!

Well first off this is a personal choice that you and your doctor should discuss together. He/she will better be able to explain the risks of the procedure. However l can tell you this, you sneezing during the procedure is not harmful. So yeah talk to your doctor about it. Tell them you are nervous and want to learn more about the procedure.

If u r confident in ur doctors, go for it. l had it done, well Ok bare with me here.. l was 11? roughly? the first time? Completely asleep, did not feel a thing, did not even hurt afterwards (worst part was the pee catheter!) The SVT came back tho, & was sent to another doctor a year or so later. They thought since l was sedated, that was the reason why it did not fix it all, so they decided to keep me awake, & give ''local anesthesia''. Unfortunately l had a bad doctor, & did not listen when l said it still hurt like hell ( l was a kid, what do l know -_-) & just restrained me to the table. Then, at my next check up ( a month later), told me he had given me complete heart block, & sent me to another doctor to put in a pacemaker. Turns out when they put the pacemaker in, they broke the wire, so not only had l never needed it, but It could have killed me.) And, of course, the SVT came back. By then l was 16, & l told my mom l was not going to do anything else. Not even see a doctor again, l was petrified. But here is the thing: She dragged me in to a new doctor, & l liked him. He listened to me, told me exactly what he would & would NOT do, & said he would stop & talk to me during the procedure anytime l got scared. Reluctantly, l let him do one last ablation, & it was exactly what he said. He fixed me, & my faith in doctors. l am so glad l did it, despite being scared.
Moral of the story? Discuss ur fears with the doctor. Make sure u trust them, & ASK QUESTIONS. If u do that, all should be fine. Oh, & l was awake, laughing, & moving my arms all around during the last surgery & came out fine, no worries. :D Life is much better without worrying about SVT.
