Can a thickened wall in the heart be reduced in size

Muscles get bigger with increased strain. When a patient has high blood pressure, the increased strain ''builds up'' the heart by thickening the wall that separates the chambers. The thicker wall decreases the efficiency of the heart. Most muscles (such as biceps) that get bigger with strain will shrink when the constant strain is eliminated. If a patient reduces their blood pressure, will the heart wall revert to its former sleeker size?

This case is called Hypertrophy.

If you reduced the blood pressure, it will stop the heart muscles growth.

There are 2 classes of blood pressure reducing therapies named beta blockers and ACE inhibitors that can reverse it to get back to Normal

The thickening of the left ventricle in high blood pressure is known as left ventricular hypertrophy. Hypertrophy is known to regress (decrease) with good sustained control of blood pressure. In fact regression is a good sign.

It helps to know what hypertrophy is. When more contractile strength is needed for the heart to do it is job delivering blood to the rest of the body, one of the ways it compensates is by hypertrophy. Each muscle cell increases in size, & the combined muscle cells r able to increase the force of each contraction. The larger cells produce the thickening of the heart muscle layer. When resistance to outflow of blood from the heart decreases over time (lower bp) each cell reduces in size, thinning the heart muscle.
