l was tested a few weeks back for anything wrong with my heart by running on a treadmill (stress test type l guess).the test came back negative.does this mean l dont have angina or is there different tests that check for that. l was just wondering because l occasionaly have a tight muscle right above my brestbone that lasts for a few hours every now and then.

Angina is chest pain caused by lack of oxygenated blood to the coronary arteries of the heart. The lack of blood flow is caused by placque build up in the arterial walls. Your stress test was negative so u do not have any ischemia or lack of blood flow to the arteries which causes angina. l am just curious, did u have a cardiolite stress test where they start an IV & inject an isotope into ur veins & take nuclear scans of ur heart? This is the best stress test for ruling out ischemia. If u did not have this one, maybe u should suggest it to ur doctor.

Dufu is wrong, angina is not a lack of oxygen to the coronary arteries but rather a lack of enough oxygen blood to the coronary muscle itself. It can be caused by narrowing or partial blockages of the coronary arteries. Lack of blood flow does not cause blockages but instead, blockages cause reduced blood flow. If u answer questions at least get ur facts straight.

A short term treatment for angina pain is sub-lingual nitro-glycerin tablet therapy. Long term is angioplasty or CABG.
