My blood pressure was 150/110 so he went and hooked me up to an ekg machine and that came out good. but now he wants me to have a chest x-ray what will that show?should l be worried?

That is high, as 140 is the hypertension range.
They probably want to find out why your blood pressure is that high. They may want to check too as you start the aging process to be sure that this is your ''norm'' and so if it does go higher then they can worry

He wants to see if ur heart is at all enlarged (bigger than it should be), on the chest X-ray picture.

In simple terms, the heart has to create ur blood pressure, by its pumping, (if it stopped, ur blood pressure would immediately fall to zero over zero).

If the heart has to maintain a higher than normal blood pressure, then it has to work that much harder than normal, & it behaves like a body-builder is muscles in the gym on weights does, - - it ''bulks up.''

The degree of 'bulking up,' depends on (a) how excessive ur blood pressure is, & (b) how long u have had that excessive blood pressure, before ur doctor discovered it.

You should not be worried because,

- - (1) there is no heart enlargement shown on ur EKG, (an EKG also shows this),

- - (2) asking for the test, shows that ur doctor cares about u & is taking ur problem seriously,

- - (3) if no heart enlargement is shown on ur chest X-ray, then the heart shows no sign of being under the strain of hard pumping,

-- (4) if there is any heart enlargement, something can now be done about it.


There is a lot more that could be said about high blood pressure as a subject, but ur question is quite narrow & focussed, so l have stuck to that.

it is high, especially your bottom number, hypertension is defined as anything over 140/90, the good news is that if you take your blood pressure meds as directed it will go back to it is normal levels. You should also aim for less than 2400mg daily of sodium, and get exercise, both are natural ways to lower blood pressure. My boyfriend is 28 and has had high blood pressure for 4 years, a lot of the time it is hereditary.
