HI. l am a back office technician for a small practice. They are willing to pay for cpr certification. l am wondering whats the difference between BLS for health care providers (since l do work at a doctors office) or the heart saver cpr class provided by american heart association. Can anyone explain.. and advise which l should take!

BLS for healthcare providers is what you want. It is a bit more detailed. It goes in to stuff like using an AED and such that the other class is not likely to go into.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers is a more advanced and involved course than the Heart Saver CPR class. The American Heart Association offers both classes. For the extra training and because you work in a health setting, l would take the BLS course.

Back office technician means u r medically trained?.If u are, the BLS choice. If u r not medically trained or licensed, take a heartsaver course. The goal of the BLS course is to give CPR to healthcare people, not create them. Remember: If u r in the home or community environment, most of ur cpr situations will be closer to what is taught in the Heartsaver classes vs. the hospital/medical focus of BLS classes.
