Can heartburn increase your heart rate

Yes it can and often mimic a heart attack and a heart attack can often appear as heartburn. Both can have a dramatic effect on your blood pressure. Many people have died.thinking they have heartburn. If you have heartburn you may be suffering from acid reflux. Your pharmacist can help you there. If in doubt tho' see your Dr. to make sure you do not have heart problems.

Just to clarify, in all theory yes it can raise ur heart rate. But in response to the other answer, u have absolutely no worries about a heart attack. Cardiopulmonary Infarction is far different than a little case of heart burn. Symptoms of heart burn include a burning sensation at or around the base of the esophagus, upset stomach, acid reflux (Bile in ur mouth), & gastric disturbance. These symptoms r far different than Cardiopulmonary Infarction (Heart Attack) in that the most basic symptoms of a heart attack r quite noticeable. The first symptoms will be a numbness in the left arm, difficulty breathing, the obvious chest pain where the heart would be located, blurred vision, erratic heart rate, & becoming dizzy & disorientated.

l am a paramedic ant the answer to your question is no. Indirectly it can slightly raise your heart rate due to the uncomfortableness. Any pain/scare will raise your HR slightly. Heartburn is a stomach issue and in no way a cardiac/heart issue.

Heartburn can only increase ur heart rate if ur body is responding to the sensation of pain. The physiological processes that accompany heartburn do not cause an increase in heart rate.
A heart attack will not necessarily increase ur heart rate either.
Previous responders have been incorrect when they have stated that the symptoms of a heart attack r vastly different from those associated with heartburn. Heart attack & heartburn r often misdiagnosed as each other. Not everyone who has a heart attack has the classic signs of pain in central chest, pain radiating down left arm, tingling in the jaw etc. Some people can suffer a massive heart attack & only have minor discomfort, especially if they r diabetic.

If u suspect u r experiencing heartburn, take some antacid or drink some milk. If the pain persists, especially if it is not related to having just eaten, seek medical advice. An ECG (EKG for some) & a blood test to check Troponin levels r the basic diagnostic tests for a heart attack.
