My blood pressure is 154/101...is this dangerously bad?

normal is 120 over 80 so yes that is high

It is not good. l would not say dangerous, but not good. The optimal bp is 120/80, Your lower number is over 100, and your upper (systolic) number is well over 130 which is high. Call the doctor, you are too young for bp that high, it could be a sign of something else.

Your low number is a little high but borderline. The doctor is do not like it over 90

well im not quiet sure but it could be a little high espically if you dont eat right. or it runs in your family. if you go to one of them blood pressure machinces in like wal mart or any store it has a chart on it and it will tell you;.

yah.you're bottom number is the important one. It is what your heart is at rest. Um.you might want to set up a doctor appointment. 120/80 is the perfect blood pressure or somewhere around it. 115-125/75-85 is basically perfect. Mine is 117/78.

A normal blood pressure is less than 120/80. Blood pressures between 120-139 for the systolic number (top) & 80-89 for the diastolic number (bottom) r prehypertension & need lifestyle modification. Blood pressures above 140 systolic or 90 diastolic require medication.

So, quick answer, ur blood pressure is VERY high. Please have it check again as soon as possible. One blood pressure reading is not enough to confirm a high blood pressure, but based on ur age & these number, action needs to be taken.

Like the previous answerer l question where & with what sort of cuff ur blood pressure was taken.

What the monitor registers is not ur real (true) blood pressures. Only CHANGES r real, -that is, if ur readings rise by 20% or fall by 15%, then those changes r real, accurate, & true.
But the actual figures such as 154 or 101 AREN'T.
- They're just the pressure in a rubber bag needed to stop & release the flow of blood in ur artery.

The clue is ur revelation that you're 164 lbs of solid muscle. That distorts the sphygmomanometer reading upwards.
Take no notice of the assorted comments of the trolley-pushers, nurses, & other numpties. all tosh.

All muscular individuals with enhanced upper arms exhibit 'apparent' or elevated phantom indicated pressures, simply because it requires a greater cuff pressure to overcome the impedance of the upper-arm musculature, before pressure is transmitted to the arterial walls.
Putting it a different way, much of the pressure applied by the cuff is absorbed by distorting the musculature, sinews, flesh, fat, etc., outwards at the cuff edges. Therefore the actual pressure applied to the artery (to close it to blood flow, during measurement) is ''indicated'' pressure minus ''elastic distortion'' pressure. In practice, this can be about a quarter of the indicated pressure.
This mechanism applies to everyone, but is most striking in athletes & sclerotic elderly individuals.
