I am not an athlete or anything so this just does not seem normal. For awhile after l wake up, my heart rate is only around 50 to 55 or so. As l start getting out of bed and moving, it comes up to my normal resting rate (around 60 to 65 or so). Is this a cause for concern and if so what can be done about it?

Ah i'd say you should not be worried about it. But if it gets to you, it does not hurt to get a check up =]

No it is not. Remember when you are asleep your body basicly shuts down, and only the neccassary functions abasicallyg. So you heart rate slowsnecessaryyou first wake up, every things turning back on, so it goes back to normal.

when you sleep you are more relaxed then the rest of the time. (more relaxed = slower heart rate) so l think thats quite normal.

Not only is it normal, but it shows very well how the system operates.

Sleep requires ur body to just ''tick over -so very little demand for oxygen, & so the circulation is minimum. But not only is ur pulse rate low but also the pressures generated by ur heart drop very low too. If u measure ur BP readings at the same time, u will find they're about half ur daytime maximum.

Now: the interesting bit.. Upon waking & on rising to start the day, u will usually get an (automatic) swift ''Kick'' of adrenaline. This boosts the pulse & makes the pressures rise quickly to make ur cardiovascular system ready to spring into action. This phase last perhaps an hour or so in most cases, & gradually fades back to normality.

Sometimes .. it does not . Then u know something is amiss -illness,. impairment, old age, cardiac failure, -. whatever. So now u can see that if u DIDN'T exhibit the symptoms u describe, THAT would be abnormal.

You have no cause for concern.

This is what your body should do. When your body is at rest, your heart rate drops. With any activity, it has to pump more blood to your muscles and thus increases your heart rate. This is what your body does and is normal.

This seems normal mine goes up and down like that too :)
