No not unless the doctor says you can not participate. My daughters both have them and play sports.

of course you can. you can get out of gym class for a lot of things and a heart murmur is a good excuse.. they cant make participate.. and if they do give you trouble just have you parent make a phone call up there and then there you go, no more gym class!

l do not see why not. They might make you walk the entire time!!!
l had knee issues and that is what the school wanted me to do. That was almost 10 years ago though.
You should do some workout that is good for your heart. It will also be good for you to keep weight off. (not saying you need to, it would just be good in general)

Absolutely, just fall down to the ground and collapse. Wait till the ambulance comes and then stand up. Tell everyone you are okay, but can not participate in exercise. Do not go on the ambulance because it will cost like $1,200.

Most likely not you would have to have a serious murmur that was life threatening. Not to mention the school would require a note from the doctor that diagnosed you. Even then you probably would be given book work to do during that class that is about Physical Ed! When l was in school I'd rather do the laps! Most people can still exercise with one. l know because my son has one and he does all sorts of activities.

Only if the doctor determines the condition is dangerous and even then you would be required to do written activities. Frankly, l have never heard of the doctors excepting this as an excuse.

Gym class is probably more important for you to participate in so that you keep yourself healthy and your heart healthy! Dont over exert yourself and take a break every now and then if you feel breathless so you dont pass out. Talk with your gym teacher about your limits. Some sport is better than none.

l think a physical is required each year of school and then you could ask your doctor preforming the physical. You should make sure you keep your heart healthy and exercise with a murmur.then can go away, but l can understand wanting to get out of gym class.

A heart murmur is not less or more than (usually) increased noise of blood flow. The source is from one of three things: a hole between the heart chambers, swishing through a heart valve opening or closing, or just increased sounds associated with blood ejecting from the heart chamber (so-called out-flow murmur). In the vast majority of pediatric cases, murmurs r benign & should not limit or impede ur activities.
If u r unusually short of breath, notice blue fingers or lips, or have passed out or nearly passed out when exercising, then this murmur warrants more investigation. Short of those symptoms, ur doctor has already evaluated the condition - & most certainly would have provided a note if he/she thought it was unwise to exercise.
If u have never had an echo-cardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) then u should probably have one to verify that the murmur is in fact harmless. Your primary doctor can formerly refer u for this procedure. Bottom line: a heart murmur is not usually a legitimate excuse to miss gym.
Good luck.

Unless the heart murmur is dangerous and actually causes you to have health problem or adverse symptoms, then l am afraid not. On a positive note, if the murmur is worrying you, keep in mind that tonnes of people have totally harmless heart murmurs.
