My nephew has had abdominal pain since Friday night, and is now in the hospital. All his blood work is normal, no appendicitis, but his blood pressure is really high (153/108). They are doing a urinalysis to check his kidneys, but his ultrasound showed no issues. He is on 4 BP medicines with not a lot of improvement. Yesterday they gave him morphine which seems to be the only thing that has really made him act like himself again. What could be causing this? He has never had more than a cold!

It might be that some organ in his body is not working correctly (adrenal glands, etc) which would require very specialized testing in order to get to an answer. This is highly unusual and hopefully, his parents will continue to ask his doctor for additional testing until an answer is found.

the pain, when they identify the source of the pain and fix that, the blood pressure will probably come down. the clue is morphine making it come down, morphine is a powerful pain killer, they should isolate the source of the pain

Kidney disease is the number one cause in kids. Also, the adrenal glands could cause it if they are releasing too much hormone. There is a test where they keep all of the urine for 24hrs and test it. It could be from the pain. If he is overweight, this could add to it.

They really need to find the cause of the pain, too.
