Cora has just given birth to a baby girl, Vena. The doctors tell Cora that Vena will require an operation in the near future as she was with an aorta that arises from the right ventricle and a pulmonary trunk that issues from the left ventricle. What are the consequences of this defect?

This is a complex question, as there r several different types of this disorder. Typically, when this happens, the umbrella term TGV, or transposition of the great vessels is used. This can be broken down into different subtypes, & may be a simple transposition or complex, depending on whether there r any other accompanying defects such as an ASD (atrial septal defect), VSD (ventricular septal defect), PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosis), etc. The consequences may be subtle at first, though eventually there will be right ventricular hypertrophy from the increased pressures of the systemic circulation.
