Carbon monoxide can come from any source that burns fuel.space heaters, charcoal grills, & gas appliances such as water heaters, ovens, & dryers, other people smoking around u in a confined space, all produce carbon monoxide. Usually they cause no problems. BUT, if they r not working properly, or if they r not vented properly, they can produce c.o. Carbon monoxide then can get into ur blood stream by u breathing it in. C.M. Your hemaglobin molecule in u blood tends to bind very strongly to C.M. so instead of delivering oxygen to ur body, it just holds onto the C.M.
l think u should be a carbon monide detector. You can move it around ur house to see if u r having a problem in ur house. C.O. posioning is not something u should play around with. If u do not find it at home, maybe ur workplace is the source. Take the detector to work with you!

hp has a good point. do you live with a smoker? if so, you may be suffering due to passive smoking.

Update:
since you do not live or work with a smoker and you have mentioned you live near a steel mill, l think that is the likely source of your carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

do you have neighbors with the similar conditions?

you may also want to contact your local authorities to check the air quality around your house.
